Detangling
If you have textured hair, then you know that curls love other curls. It seems like your curls/coils find each other automatically and clump together. It can seem daunting to try to untangle your beautiful head of hair, it is an important step that requires a lot of attention to detail. You cannot rush detangling. During this process you are separating the hair strands to remove tangles and knots that form in the hair over time.
Detangling with water, conditioner, and oil will be gentler in your hair than trying to detangle on dry hair. The water and moisture helps to make the hair more flexible then when it is in the dry state helping it to conform to the brush or comb when detangling. Remember to always start detangling from the ends and work your way up to the roots. You do not want to start at the roots, otherwise you will be ripping through your hair and lose quite a bit of hair growth you may have.
I recommend starting with your fingers to get the large knots and tangles out of your hair, but then using a tool such as wide tooth comb or Denman brush to really ensure that you have adequately removed knots and tangles in your hair. You want to prevent your hair from matting.
If you rush the detangling process, you will not be able to achieve your healthy hair goals. It may seem tedious to remove tangles and knots, but it is so worth it.
