About Me

I am a medical doctor, natural hair specialist, and owner of Textured Curlz salon.

Welcome to your beautiful journey to healthy hair!

Before we get started I should tell you a little about myself and why I started this program.

I created the hair coaching program to reach out to others that need a community and support while navigating how to care for their hair in a healthy way. I grew up not understanding how to care for my hair. I had no idea what to use to moisturize my hair so that it would not break when detangling or the techniques to use to help me retain length. I knew and loved protective styles, but I was not really protecting my hair since I did not know how to properly care for my hair. Sure, my hair looked beautiful in twists, but each strand of hair was pulled too tight and brittle. Each time I took out the style I lost more hair then when the style was put in. I got to the point that I did not even want to see or touch my hair. I just wanted my hair to be covered in the next protective style as quick as possible so that I wouldn’t have to deal with it.

Then about 10 years ago I learned about the natural hair community. I began to see that my hair texture was not something to be afraid of or ashamed about. I could embrace it and help it flourish if I understood it. I watched countless videos online from both stylists and home hair care “gurus”. There were many bumps in the road, but I loved how much I was learning. But then I hit a wall. My hair would stay stuck at shoulder length. I did not understand why. I was doing everything I thought I should be. I was using essential oils, deep conditioning my hair, and stretching me hair, but I was seeing no change. I finally caved and went to see a stylist and she explained to me that my ends were the problem. I was not removing my damaged ends and this was traveling up my hair strand and weakening the overall strength. So I got on a regular program with her and I started to see my hair reach lengths I did not think possible. This was in combination with eating a healthier diet and keeping up with a regular exercise regimen.
All this being said, I hope that you will trust me when I say it takes a village to keep your hair healthy. I learned so much from the women I watched online and my stylist who was always been honest with me about my hair condition. I also leaned on my fitness coaches and stayed committed to eating healthier with my husband. My hope is that through hair coaching and community support you can see your hair transform in ways you never thought possible. There is no such thing as good or bad hair. You just need to master the hair you have with techniques tailored to your unique hair. Never be ashamed of your hair. We are all in different stages of our hair journey. Welcome to the group and I cannot wait to join you on this exciting road ahead!
