Heat/steam tools for low porosity hair
Low porosity hair has closed hair strand cuticles. You will need to use heat to open the cuticles to aid in the absorption of a deep conditioner. You will want to do this so that your hair shafts can truly absorb the moisture they so desperately need to prevent breakage.
Below are some examples of tools you can use to add heat/steam to your hair.
Hot Head
Cap that contains flax seeds that retain heat when heated in a microwave. You will need to put the cap in the microwave for a few seconds to warm prior to wearing. This is easy to use and allows you to multitask when deep conditioning as you are not tied down under a hood while applying heat to head, but does not stay warm for long and may require multiple reheating attempts during deep conditioning.
Hooded dryer
Hooded dryers are great for low porosity hair for both helping to absorb product and to help dry hair. Low porosity hair often takes longer to dry and sitting under a dryer can help to speed up this process. Hooded dryers tend to be a little more costly, but investing in a good quality dryer can last you quite a bit of time.
Hooded cap attachment for blow dryer
Hooded cap blow dryer attachment is more affordable than a hooded dryer, but can be a little flimsy and uncomfortable to wear the chin strap during the drying process.
Steamer
Similar to the hooded dryer you can sit under the steamer while being hands free, but not as mobile as the hot head. Steamers are great since they can feel refreshing with the water on your hair. Can be a little bit expensive for good quality steamer.
